What is the best kind of laptop computer to get?

laptop computerWhen it comes time to buy a new laptop computer, there are a million different models to choose from.  Depending on who you ask, you will get different answers about which ones are the best ones to buy.  Each situation is different though.  For instance a laptop for a college student will have different hardware needs than a laptop for everyday use around the home.

In general I am a fan of Intel based computers.  You will save money by getting an AMD based laptop, but I think the quality is better with Intel.  It seems that most of the laptops that have the AMD chips also cut corners in other places to save a few bucks.  That allows them to sell the laptop a little bit cheaper.  I don’t know about you, but I don’t particularly like it when companies cut corners to save nickels and dimes.  I would rather pay just a little bit more for real quality.

The Core i3 processors seem to be a pretty decent performer for the cost.  You don’t necessarily have to cough up all the extra cash to go with a Core i5 or Core i7.  I think that the vast majority of people would be perfectly happy sticking with a less expensive Core i3.  You never want to skimp on Ram though.  No matter which model you end up choosing, always make sure that you have enough Ram for your version of Microsoft Windows.  For Windows 7 you want to make sure you have a minimum of 3 gigabytes.

I have read reviews all over the internet about which brand of laptop is the best.  I don’t think it matters all that much to be honest.  It seems that the difference in quality among the major manufacturers isn’t really all that much.  The price difference between them isn’t really all that much either in the grand scheme of things.  I think you are better off shopping for the individual internal components.  It seems that is what all the super geeks are doing these days.

One thing that you can really screw up on when picking out a new laptop is to shop on price alone.  If you make every decision about your laptop based on the price, then you will probably end up getting one that is a lot slower than you thought it would be.  Just because a laptop is brand new, does not mean that it is going to be fast.  There is still a really good chance that the laptop is going to take forever to boot up.  It might not handle multitasking as well as you would expect either.  Isn’t that really the reason why you want to replace the one you have right now?
