Recyling Used Ink Cartridges

Glass products, cardboard, plastic and aluminum are a few things that are being recycled in this new environmentally conscious age. Although you may not find a convenient receptacle at the supermarket for them, old ink cartridges are now part of that crowd. Not only can you recyle, at the store or online, but you often will receive reimbursement for your time and green-sensitivity in the form of cash or store credit. Here’s how to do it:

First, take out the used-up ink or toner cartridge. Make sure you follow the instructions in the manual or on the printer for safe and efficient removal.

Next, you must locate some firm or location operating an ink cartridge donation or replacement program. You might want to choose a store just down the street or perhaps finding a place on the web would be best. $4 for a printer cartridge and $7 for a toner cartridge is around what you can expect to receive as a reward. For some, it’s more advantageous to combine many cartridges into one shipment to cut down on costs. If you are an employee at a large office or company, this might be your best bet. Other people like to bring them in right away to get them refilled and reuse them.

The office superstores may also be able to refill the ink or toner and then sell it back to you at a lower cost than buying a new one. Remember, since the cartridge must be opened up to be refilled, the risk of an error of some kind of cartridge failure goes up. Using a re-filled cartridge may also void the warranty on some printers, so read carefully ahead of time if you decide to re use your old cartridge.

Finally, those recycled cartridges need to be replaced. If you alreday have a refill, you can move right on into replacing it. If you seek to purchase a brand new ink cartridge, a decent option would be an online retailer like 4inkjets.com. I’ve found they usually have pretty good deals on cheap ink cartridges.

Now you now how simple recyling ink cartridges is! This gives you the ability to maximize efficiency, cut costs, and watch out for the environment at the same time!

Features And Review Of The Canon MX310

For a graduation present, I received a Canon Pixma MX310 All-In-One a few years ago. I have owned one for several years and would like to take this moment to share my opinion on the printer’s worth to establish a buying suggestion.

As is the standard for All-in-one printers, the MX310 can Print, Scan, Copy and Fax. I am familiar with all of the printer’s components except for the Fax feature. I will talk about each feature individually and then discuss a few other printer considerations.

Printing with the MX310 is a snap. The software and manual are comprehensive and simple to get through and I was able to successfully connect the printer and print off a test document within minutes of opening the printer. Printing is reasonably fast and doesn’t seem as prone to jams as other printers on the market. Ink usage is rather high, unfortunately, and the ink cartridges cannot be refilled like many other popular models. Replacement ink is not badly priced online, however, where it can be found for as little as $22 from a reputable dealer like 4inkjets. For the tech geeks, it prints up to 600×600 dpi in monochrome at 22 pages/minute and 4800×1200 dpi in color at 17 pages/minute.

Copying is also easy. The ADF (Automatic Document Feeder) is reliable and holds up to 30 pages comfortably.. Quality, of course, is great, as would be expected from Canon-branded anything. The copying of photos to high-quality photo paper results in photos that are almost impossible to pick out from professionally-developed stills.

Scanning produces similar high-quality results. The scanning feature, however, has always given me cause for an issue. I always have trouble shfiting the printer into scanning mode. Sometimes I have to press the scan button several times and just sort of wait for the printer to decide when it wants to go into scan mode. After the scanning is complete, the quality, however, is great.

I don’t have any experience with the fax component. From what i’ve read online, reviews seem to be mixed. The MX310’s lack of fax options is a high point of dismay, but the 20-number fax storage capacity is appreciated. I would really suggest you try elsewhere for information about the fax’s specific capabilities.

The biggest problem I have with the printer is its large size. The thing is huge. It extends over most of my desk! Not even my laptop fits on the desk if the printer is in place. I’ve used a variety of printers, so I can also say that the printer is relatively loud. The cartridge will probably still have around 30-40 pages of printing left in it when the low ink-refill light comes up. It’s not very eco-friendly, and I hope it wasn’t intentional on Canon’s part.

Pros: Good quality, very efficient.

Cons: Uses a lot of ink, can’t use ink refill kits, difficult to find space for.

Final Verdict: A 3 out of 5. Although the printer has high prodcutivity, I just can’t afford to keep replacing ink at the rate I do, and the large size makes it difficult to fit onto a desk. It is a decent printer, but when I buy my next model, I will definitely look for something less space and ink-consuming.

Cheap Ink Cartridges, Where To Find Them, And How To Install Them

Out of ink and need a refill? Here are some steps to take to ensure the ink-replacement process is as simple as possible.

1. Now you’ll need to know where you could find a cheap ink cartridge to replace the used up one, and to do that, you need to know which model your printer is. As far as printer ink is concerned, ‘one size fits all’ is a really bad rule of thumb. An HP printer will have a very different replacement cartridge compared to a Canon printer and even different Canon printers will have a different size and shape to their respective ink cartridges. Your specific printer name should be visible directly on it. My printer is a Canon MX310.

2.Ascertain the best method of opening up and removing the ink cartridges. The cartridge loading bay is usually opened by some sort of switch or button on the printer.Checking the owner’s manual is also a possibility. If you threw out the owner’s manual for your printer, you can always use a search engine to search for the name of your printer and the word ‘manual’. I would do a Google search for information about ‘Canon MX310 manual’ if i wanted to find a copy of that online and read the portion dedication to changing used-up ink.

3.Carefully remove the old ink cartridge. If the black ink is out, the color cartridge may still be good, so make sure which ones you have to replace. Sometimes there’s loose ink that could stain your hands, so watch out for that.

4.Make sure you secure a trusted vendor of replacement cheap ink cartridges. You could always buy your ink directly from the manufacturer, but you’re definitely gonna pay more if you do that. I’ll give you a link to the place I usually buy my ink cartridges from in a little bit-they’re really good and I’ve never had a problem with them! J

5.Once the ink catrdiges arrive in the mail, you can remove the packaging and take the first piece of adhesive off the ink container. Hold them in the correct position and put them where the old cartridges were. You should have little trouble sliding it in and securing it in place. If you need a visual guide, there may be pictures in your manual or on your printer.

5.Close the printer cover and print a test page to ensure that the replacement cheap ink cartridge has been engaged. The printer may print this page without your prompting.

Congratulations! That’s pretty much the end of the work involved with changing out, finding and reinstalling a cheap ink cartridge . By the way, that link above is the link for the reliable site I mentioned earlier

Can You Save Money With Your Font?

These days, as small businesses and offices continue to cut expenses wherever they can, the print and copyroom sometimes seems like it has become an unbearable expense. Some offices force their employees to double side their work or enter a passcode to use the printer. Others try more drastic approaches, like trying to impose a paper free office, or giving every employee a flash drive to carry files. Here’s a much simpler solution: change your font and save up to 31% on ink costs. Really now??

The most popular font type these days is Arial. A study conducted by blog.printer.com, however, deduces that it’s certainly not the most economical. To set up a strict control situation, they compared 10 different fonts over the exact same test situations. A Canon Pixma MP210 was used to represent the printer an average home user would own and the Brother HL-2140 was used to represent the printer an average business user would own.

Identical pages were printed in all 10 fonts. The documents were turned into .pdf documents and scanned by the application Apfill, which calculated the total ink coverage of each page.

In the end, the total ink coverage for each font given identical text was compared, and a clear winner was established, one that used the absolute least amount of ink. A home user could save around $20 a year by switching to Century Gothic over Arial, assuming around 25 pages/week. Century Gothic would save the average business user (approximated to print around 250 pages/week) an estimated $80/year.

A huge savings could be achieved if the businesses have more than one printer, or printer more than 250 pages per week, of course.

So which font came out on top?? What text utilized the least ink while maintaining quality readability?

Taking the #1 prize is Century Gothic. Verdana and Times New Roman, other popular and common fonts, placed at #5 and #3, respectively. Arial placed #6 in the rankings out of the 10 fonts tested, suggesting that it isn’t terrible, but isn’t the greatest.

Now the next time you’re looking to cut ink and printing costs, try something simple: Try changing your font.

Have a peek at the rest of their blog.printer.com article on their website, where you can see numbers and rankings for all ten of the tested fonts.

How To Lower Your Printer Costs

Do you wish you could lower expenses for your small business in the copyroom? This handy checklist will help you lower company costs by lowering printing and ink costs.

1. Make sure everyone in the company knows how to use all the different printing settings and features. Reducing font sizes, changing margins, making double sided copies and printing selections are all measures than can be taken and employed by your office to cut costs. When color isn’t necessary for the document’s meaning, encourage and demonstrate use of the ‘print color in black and white’ feature found in the print settings. Black ink is much cheaper than color ink.

2. Things like the print preview feature should be used by everyone in the office to look at their documents before they print them to check for glaring errors that can easily be fixed before wasting paper.

3. Consider investing in a laser printer instead of an inkjet printer. Laserjets save more money because they print pages at between 1 and 3 cents a page, but an inkjet can cost as much as 4 to 12 cents per page. You’ll pay more for a Laserjet, but then the savings will add up as your company saves money on every individual piece of paper printed.

4. Printer-friendly versions on web pages are useful options if you’re looking to print directly from the web, so remind your officemates about that. There are often fewer or no pictures on these pages, so the total printing cost will be lower.

5. If using an inkjet printer, take advantage of ink refills at discounted prices and order cheap ink cartridges online from places like 4inkjets.

6. Electronic copies via email should be employed as often as possible instead of printing papers for inter-office use. Instead of printing a hard copy, use a flash drive to store that rough draft until it’s finalized.

Using these tips in your office will probably see slow results at first, but if everyone works together, the cost savings and overall green effect will have a very positive impact.

I like 4inkjets.com. They always have good deals on cheap ink cartridges.
