What Motherboard to Use: A Computer Parts Guide

From cheap Dell laptop computers. You know about the processor of your Computer being one of the essential parts of your PC right? But a number of people just go with the ordinary and normal motherboards with their top of the line processors and it’s just a shame. One cannot get the full potential of the processor if the motherboard is not capable of handling it. When choosing a motherboard, there are a number of things that you need to consider since if the processor is the brain, the motherboard can be more aptly described as the heart.

The motherboards help the overall system performance of the Personal Computer. It coordinates the different components and allows them to communicate with each other. So first off, you need to determine the socket type of the motherboard. The socket type determines the Computer processor to be used. Motherboards are not universal. You need specific motherboards for specific processors. When considering for the type of sockets or motherboard chip sets, it would best to think about your needs. But generally, it would be better to go with an updated chipset or socket type since you can keep your motherboard for fairly long time even if you upgrade the processor version.

Another consideration is the kind of memory or RAM to use. Motherboards have specific socket connections. And since RAM are not universally compatible, you need to determine first what kind of RAM you would use. Also, learn the maximum memory your motherboard can handle. If you want to expand your memory in the future, you need to know how far you can expand it given the motherboard you have.

When selecting a Computer Hardware like the motherboard, it is absolutely necessary to think things more carefully. You need to make all components compatible to make the whole system work. If one component is not suitable, example the RAM you bought cannot be used on the specific motherboard you have, then the whole system won’t work. And considering the fact the Desktop Computer Parts upgrades come out quite regularly, you will also need to consider that. Will you be able to use the motherboard in the next year or so? Would it handle upgrades in processors and/or RAMs? You will have to read more about these things before you decide on a purchase. Familiarize yourself with the current technologies especially product reviews and also learn more about what products are already in the pipeworks.

Tips When Choosing PC Parts

From affordable previously owned laptops. If you are one of those who us trying to build his or her personal Personal Computer (PC) from scratch but not knowledgeable in certain topics, this is the best time for you to conduct some research. This would be very helpful to you because there are countless of resources available out there for you to use as a reference.

When you are researching, make sure that you start with the basic Hardware required, keyboard, monitor, central processing unit (CPU) and mouse. Other things that you need when building up a PC will include: tower or desktop case, motherboard, processor, memory, graphics card, sound card, modem, floppy drive, hard drive, CD/DVD Rom, PC speakers, monitor, CD/DVD Writer, Blu Ray Writer, TV card, Satellite card and Cable TV card.

When choosing for Computer Hard ware, make sure that you:

- prioritize what you really need. Although these are all necessary for an efficient Desktop, there are some that you can do without for the moment. Make sure that you know what are those things so you don’t run out of budget for more important stuff.

- don’t be brand conscious. People think that because a certain Computer Components component is branded, the quality is first class. Although this might be the case, it doesn’t mean that those who are not are popular are of lesser quality. Don’t be too brand conscious. Pay attention to certain specifications and you will realize that you are Buying the same quality as that of the branded one, half the price.

-  look around. There are so many Computer shops today that gives people so many options when choosing their PC Hard ware. If you are one of those who are looking for quality Computer Parts components, don’t be contended with just one store. Try to look around for other shops and compare the prices.

- consider your space. Many people don’t realize it but having enough space is integral in setting up a personal PC. This is because the quality of the PC’s performance would depend on the “breathing space” it has. When choosing Computer Parts components, make sure that you have enough space in you home so it won’t be too crowded.

- manage your budget. This is also a major consideration when choosing Desktop Computer Parts because if you get too caught up with the price, you might be sacrificing other components that are of equal importance. When choosing, make sure to buy only those that your budget could accommodate so you won’t have financial set back problems.

Simple Steps in Troubleshooting Computer Hardware

From Cheap notebook computer backpack discounts. There’s no question about it, Computer Hardware fails. May it be your hard drive, video card or RAM. However, there are steps where you can troubleshoot some simple Computer Components failures or steps that you can do to make sure that your Computer components won’t fail on you right away. Don’t be intimidated with those PC Parts. Troubleshooting your Parts is in fact sometimes easier than solving some software problems.

Troubleshooting the Hardware depends on each specific piece of component. The hard drive needs a different fix than the video card so does the memory. Probably a good tool to have is one of those diagnostic applications that help you check and determine the health of specific Hardware like the hard drive or the RAM. You can get these applications fairly cheap plus there are freewares which you can download that has the same functionalities.

For example, your hard disk needs a simple diagnostic utility application which helps you check the status of your drive. Ordering a UPS is a good investment as well. If you experience a sudden power interruption, bad sectors in your hard drive might develop. Having a UPS is a good thing for your hard drive, plus you can have enough time to save and backup working files. Also avoid transporting or simply shaking the Desktop Computer when it is on. This is potentially damaging to the hard drive as well.

To avoid problems with your RAM, make sure that you insert the memory into the slot properly and tightly. If you experience lag or slowness of application, don’t panic and assume that the memory module is damaged. This can also mean that the application you are using require more memory than what you currently have. You have to buy new ones to work in a faster environment.

The same can be said about video cards. It is important to insert them tightly in the PCI or AGP slot. Also check the VGA cables to ensure that there is a display in the monitor. An updated driver for the video card is also important.

External peripherals like the keyboard, mouse, monitor and printers need to be cleaned on a regular basis to ensure that they are running smoothly. From weekly to quarterly, these Computer Hardware needs regular maintenance. Believe me, it can save a whole lot of your time in the future if you keep them well maintained.

How to Buy Desktop Computer Components

From Cheap laptops for college students. Even if you do not know anything about Desktop Hardware, you can still make the best Buying decision, just so long as you have a  basic idea on what these Computer Components are and know some tips on how to shop the right way. Below are some tips on how to buy it and some basic information about  this part of  the desktop wonder.

Desktop Computer Components per se is that part of your Desktop set that you can physically touch as opposed to Computer programs and the operating system that you can see but you cannot touch. It includes the processor which is directly responsible for processing the data; the hard disk which serves as the storage space for files and photos; the RAM or the Random Access Memory, which takes care of multiple tasks and keeping the processes in smooth shape; the graphics and sound cards which allows you to have vivid pictures as well as sounds that you will enjoy; the motherboard, where all these parts are laid out and of course the modem, which is important when you want to connect to the internet.

When Buying Computer Parts, it is important to note which part you need. This is not essential if you need to buy the whole Personal Computer but if you are trying to fix a Desktop Computer that has bogged down, it is more practical to check first which part broke and only buy that part. That way, you will be able to save money. After all, the other parts are still in working condition.

When you know what Computer Parts you are going to buy, shopping for it will be less of a problem. This is especially true if you are working on a limited budget and just could not afford to buy the whole  thing. The next thing you have to decide on is the budget. How much are you willing to spend for that part. Some people however canvass first and look at the specifications. Some Components will be faster or have more gigabytes in them. Buying which of these will depend on how  you will be using the Desktop. People who store a lot of files inside their PC will of course need a hard disk that have bigger space. A photographer will need a higher or  better graphic card. It all depends on what your  use for your Personal Computer and what your requirements are.

Cool PC Parts

From Cheap HP laptop computers. Yes, it is indeed cool seeing all those electronic components come together to create a Personal Computer. But the ‘cool’ in the title refers to the system that you have installed to keep the temperature of the Computer at a minimum. If you own a personal Personal Computer in your home then you probably know the importance of keeping the whole Personal Computer system cool. Heat is probably one of the most dangerous elements to your PC.

Your Desktop Hardware can be cooled with the simple fans and having cooling vents in your Desktop case. There are, however, some cooling systems that use special liquids to keep the processor heat down so performance and overall integrity of the Hardware is not compromised. The level of cooling system that you use on your personal PC depends on how insane your Components, how insane you customized your components and how insane you are using your personal Personal Computer. The more work you do with your Computer the harder the Computer components work and the more you need some coolant to keep the heat at or below the threshold.

Now for bigger systems like Computer networks of big companies, you’ll find that they use a more extreme cooling system. Now these big PC networks use big servers that need to have a sustained temperature of around 72 to 76 degrees Fahrenheit. Plus the humidity should be maintained as well. According to experts, an ideal humid environment should be 45 degrees. One could go to up to 60 percent that anything beyond that is totally unacceptable. And of course, these cooling systems should be capable of running round the clock and should have backup power supplies in case of the primary breaks down. You cannot afford to loose all your company data due to something that you could have prevented in the first place.

Housing your large components like big PC servers needs some planning as well since the structure itself can be designed to allow the free flowing of cool air which adds to maintaining the temperature at low levels. Consider having mesh front and rear doors for server cabinets since the design allows hot air to freely escape from the server.

Some who can afford install chiller systems which use glycol or plain water coolants. These kinds of cooling system for your Computer Components are made up of combinations of chillers, pumps and pipes. With this system you will need a bigger space and regular maintenance is absolutely necessary.

Is this cool or what?

Important Computer Components Care Tips

From cheap laptop batteries. A Computer can last until five years before it can be considered outdated. With the fast development in technology, Computers are evolving and changing very fast. But there are some who change their PC before they even reach the five years. Some because of the affordability of the new one, while others, because their Computer are already run down.

A PC’s poor condition can be because of poor maintenance and care. How can you fully maximize your Personal Computer? Take good care of it. So, here are the simple tips for maintenance and cleanliness.

Frequent vacuuming and dusting would remove dust, lint, carpet fibers, hair and smoke particles from your Computer Parts. Do not put it inside dark places where it can accumulate dust particles. Accumulate dust can cause your Desktop Computer to overheat and can even cause permanent Components failure.

Aside from battery powered vacuum cleaner, you can also use lint-free cloth which can be used when cleaning monitors and other delicate surfaces. When using vacuum cleaner, avoid using inside the Computer case or CPU. It can damage the components inside it. You can also use artist brushes for removing dirt in hard-to reach areas, like the Computer keyboard.

Smoking near the Computer can also contribute to the early deterioration of your Computer. Avoid putting your Computer near anything that produces smoke, like cigarettes and fireplaces. This can block the hear coming out of the PC and eventually cause overheating.

You can use compressed gas to remove the dirt and the dust inside the CPU cause. Just avoid using this on the floppy diskette, CD, DVD and Zip drives. Avoid using your breathe as dust removal, it can attract more dust since human breathe is moist.

For cleaning LCD screens, use soft dry cotton. This could remove the smudges on the screen. But if it fails to do so, you can mix isopropyl alcohol with water on 50-50 ratio. You can use this to clean the screen but avoid using any other kind of cleaning solution since this could hard the Computer Parts.

When cleaning the keyboard disconnect if first from the PC. Then you can start turning it upside down to remove anything that could be hiding behind the keys. You can also used compressed air to remove materials stuck on the keyboard. You can also use antibacterial and disinfecting wipes.

Strange movements of the mouse can be because the mouse itself and its ball are dirty. To clean it, disconnect it from the Personal Computer and release the ball so that you can clean it fully.

When cleaning your Computer you need to be careful since there is a possibility that you can cause damage in some parts. Whenever you are cleaning, you need to make sure that there is no water around the cleaning area, you could wear anti-static bracelets to that you would not be discharging any shocks that could affect your PC’s functionality.

You could also have a Computer Parts maintenance schedule to make sure that your Desktop is regularly cleaned. Maintaining and cleaning your Desktop would make sure that you would fully maximize your equipment.

Fast facts on Desktop Computer Hard ware

From inexpensive Lenovo Laptops. Knowledge of Computer Hardware is the very basic thing that one needs to know if he or she has plans of starting up a personal Desktop Computer (PC) from a scratch. This is because if one is knowledgeable on this, he or she would know how to choose the components needed and that person could also save up some money since he or she can opt for lesser known brands.

The most basic Computer Hard ware includes the monitor, the keyboard, and the mouse. But, there are so many PC Hardware components needed to make the Desktop perform its function. Aside from the physical components, you will also need operating system and a number of software. The following are some of the basic components of Desktop Parts and its specifications:

The Central Processing Unit or CPU: This is directly related to the “motherboard” which is the very body of the Computer itself. For the CPU to perform its functions as the brain of the Computer, it needs: a heat sink and fan; the chip set which is responsible for bridging the CPU to other components of the system; the memory or the RAM which is responsible for running processes and applications; the BIOS that includes power management and boot firmware; and the Basic Input Output System which handles the operating system drivers.

The power supply: Since Desktop Computers depend on electricity as the power source, the power supply is needed to make sure that everything will work. Components of power supply include the power cord, the switch, and the cooling fan.

The video display controller: This is responsible for producing the output for the visual display unit and is usually built into the motherboard or sometimes attached in its own separate slot such as the PCI, the PCI-E, the PCI-E 2.0, or the AGP like a graphics card.

The removable media devices: This mainly refer to the Computer storage. The most common removable media devices - which are suitable for data and music - in a personal PC include the Floppy disk which is considered as an outdated storage device; the Zip drive which has a higher capacity than Floppy disk, the compact disc (CD), the CD-ROM Drive to read data; the CD Writer to read and write data on the CD; DVD which is a higher memory type of CD; the DVD-ROM Drive; the DVD Writer; the DVD-RAM Drive for express reading and writing; the Blu-ray Disc for high-density data storage and high-definition videos; the BD-ROM Drive, the BD Writer; and the USB flash drive which is flash device used for memory data storage and has big capacity.

Shopping for the right Desktop Computer Parts

From Cheap leather laptop bags. It is not easy Buying Computer Hardware especially if the only thing that you know about Desktop Computers is the fact that when you press the button in the morning, it will suddenly come to life! But it pays to know a lot about Computers because it will give you an edge when it comes to haggling for a good price and also shopping for the Hardware with the perfect specifications. You may not realize it but shopping for the Desktop part does not end with just knowing the brand and the name of the Desktop Computer Parts; you also need to know the performance level, the capacity and whether it is compatible with the rest of your Components.

Like many electrical items, Computers also have ports and cables that need to be connected in order for the parts to work. With Personal Computers, you need to know what kind of ports and cables you are dealing with in order to find the one that will work. This is important not only in the parts found inside the CPU or the Central Processing Unit, but also the peripheral parts like the mouse and the keyboard, which can either have a round socket or a USB port as connecting cables.

You also need to find out the capacity of each of the Desktop Computer Hard ware. Some will work faster than others. This can be seen in the model. To know which is top of the line, you can research in the internet. Remember though that Computer parts easily get upgraded; so what may be the newest and the best three months ago may not necessarily be the fastest today. Constantly check for updates. Stores will also be able to tell you about the new ones being introduced in the market. Of course, you don’t need to buy the new ones.

Some of these information, you can get from Desktop magazines, books and of course over the internet. You will even find great reviews of Computer Components there plus a discussion on their prices in the market. But no matter how complete the information you can get from these sources, nothing beats first hand knowledge that you will get only from people who have the experience. Ask people who already own Computers or those who are working with Desktop Computers. These people will be able to tell you a lot about what you need to buy and even where you can get them cheaply.

Making Sure Your Desktop Parts Works Fine

From affordable netbook. You can increase the life of your Computer Components if you just clean it properly. Yes, believe it or not, the amount of dust accumulated in your Hardware can slowly choke the life out of it. By simply opening up the Computer tower and dusting off the dirt that on your motherboard, peripherals and fans you can get to use your Computer for a long time or just until the time you need to upgrade your system.

The fans would be the first ones you need to clean. You will find the blades thick with dirt which can cause the fan to run slower. This will greatly affect your overall cooling system which can affect the overall performance of your Computer and worse cause your PC to overheat. Heat is the worst enemy of Computer Hardware. You have to clean all the fans, including the fan of the processor, the chip set if it has one and even the one on the video card.

Aside from the fans, the cooling vents of the Desktop tower needs to be cleaned as well. Good and clean working fans won’t be that much good if the vents are all blocked up. The heated air from the inside of the Desktop tower will not be vented out causing the warm air to just go round and round inside the tower.

Using a soft brush can do the trick, but there are some places where the brushes cannot reach or clean properly. The inside parts of the peripheral or RAM slots for example are quite difficult to clean. What you can do is buy a can of compressed air which is readily available in any office supply or Desktop Hard ware shops. The compressed air will blow away the dust from the components. Just make sure to keep the nozzle of the can at least four inches away when you do this. This is to prevent the compressed air from damaging your components.

Other things that you will need when cleaning your PC includes screwdrivers, rubbing alcohol, paper towels or better yet those anti-static cloths, and cotton swabs. To not use cotton balls because you will have a higher chance of leaving cotton threads around your Computer.

For cleaning the inside, generally brushing and the canned of compressed air will do the trick. For the case you might need those cotton swabs to clean the vent holes. The monitor needs the anti-static cloths or damp paper towels. The keyboards need brushing and some compressed air action. If you’re a fairly need guy at home and don’t own pets that shed, you can clean your Computer every eight months or so. If otherwise, we do recommend a three month cleaning schedule.
